Happy new year!
2012
I’d love to do an end of year round-up like a proper and serious blogger. You know: stats and reviews and thoughtful reflections (this is my 715th post, by the way… so there you go, the stats part is covered now…).
But I am waiting for family to arrive, we will spend the next few days together. I love them dearly, but expending social energy drains me of the wherewithal to put together cohesive thoughts here on the blog. It’s been a busy month.
So instead, I will say a heartfelt happy new year and thank you to all of you who come here and share a little time with me.
To my silent readers: your quiet presence encourages me to continue writing. I’m glad that you found me, and I so appreciate you coming back. I hope you get something out of what you find here.
To those of you who take the time to comment: I can’t thank you enough for your thoughtful contributions, personal stories, and support. I think all bloggers have some of the attention whore in them, and without feedback from readers, a blog can be a really cold and lonely place. Thank you for warming it up for me.

I have had the pleasure of following your blog for over three years now, and I can’t tell you enough how much I have enjoyed the journey. Much of what I’ve learned about D/s has come from here.
You consistently paint such beautifully rendered word pictures, and whether you are talking about scenes, working out at the gym, or just random stuff, you always find a way to make it a joy to receive.
Not only that, but you have attracted a group of wonderfully sharp and insightful readers and it’s fun to read what everyone else posts. You’ve built a great little virtual community here and I’m happy to be a part of it.
Wishing you a very happy, and healthy New Year, and may we all still be meeting here next year at this time.

I can think of several dozen blogs that closed up shop simply because they rarely attracted any readers. Of course, they never commented on other blogs, themselves, so they missed the social connection part about blogging.
Anyway, I’m glad that *you’re* still at it after, what, 15 years, now?

I can too (I never add any blog that is less than 3 months old to my blog list because of that). I think a lot of them write FOR the audience (versus for themselves), and so get disappointed and disheartened when they don’t quickly build the readership that they had hoped for.
I LOVE an audience (blog whore!), but I don’t write *for* them. I write what I feel like writing and if people are along for the ride, I am beyond delighted.

Thanks for being wonderful! I’m a new silent reader, and I’ve learned so much from reading your blog, mostly about myself, strangely enough. So thankful – thankful enough to break my silence to say thank you :)
I’ve been going through your extensive archives, and recently got to Sunday curiosity #6, in which you ponder the motivations of a pure service submissive. Try this, for fun – take the below paragraph completely out of context, and imagine it’s a quote from one of those ‘unicorns’:
“…your quiet presence encourages me to continue [working]. I’m glad that you found me, and I so appreciate you coming back. I hope you get something out of what you find here…”
I’m not a submissive, and I’m allergic to mundane domestic tasks, so what do I know! But thought it might be a parallel? If you know that you are helping someone, making things easier for them, enriching their lives, or even just touching them, there’s a relationship there even WITHOUT any acknowledgement from the beneficiary. Like in Amelie.
Just hoping to start your 2013 with a smile. Bet no-one’s ever suggested you were a service submissive before :)

*laugh* No, no they haven’t.
But I DO think that you can make a case for dominants/leaders/managers providing a service in organising others, in making decisions, in ensuring their subordinates are supported in doing their jobs, ensuring they have everything they need to succeed, taking responsibility for outcomes etc etc…
I actually consider my moderating the “Submissive Men and the Women Who Love Them” group a service to the community. And I’m happy enough to consider this blog a service to some of my readers in some small way also.
I would, however, have to argue with you on the ‘service *submissive*‘ descriptor. Fisticuffs at dawn!

A service submissive loves to serve. Domme Chronicles serves the community. There is the parallel. But then you do not love to serve like a submissive. There the parallel breaks down. A Domme loves to be the one with the authority.
How many kinds of authority can you think of? All told I know of two kinds.
What’s authority of the first kind? I will turn to the world of music – just for a handy example. When we see a group of many players of musical instruments led by a conductor we call this an orchestra. The orchestra conductor is the nerve centre. He links all of the different players together as one orchestra. The conductor tells them to start to play and when to stop. When to play this bit softly or that bit loud etc…
Even when you have just two players (a duet) one is tending to lead and the partner is following.
It is the same on the smallest scale even when just one player (a soloist) plays alone. Now that player, so to speak, is his own conductor. It is now that the player tells himself to start to play and when to stop. When to play this bit softly or that bit loud etc…
The scale of the playing may change with the number of players but the fact of authority and the basic kind of the authority is still the same. It is still authority of the first kind.
Is that it? Is that all there is to authority? No of course there is something else.
Yes there is a second kind of authority. This is the authority of the hunter over its prey.
We do have these two kinds of authority. In life both kinds can and do get mixed up.
Both kinds of authority mixed up:
The conductor does not have to nag, bully or harass the players. He does not have to act as though he owns the players. He does not have to – but he can do. There is no real need for that. Not from the purely musical point of view. The players are not his prey. The proof of this is that free talented humans play the most expressive music without authority of the second kind.
And yes in your world of business you need your leaders/managers to help you (the workers) to do your work as one team. Yes that is authority of the first kind. But here comes the second kind of authority. It is because your employer and you the employee are unequal in terms of who owns the means whereby you work and who owns the wealth that you make. So it follows that your world of leaders/managers also has something of the hunter and hunted prey about it. That is authority of the second kind. It is because in the end your employer is a kind of thief. His prey is you. His profit comes out of your work.
Kinky folk sexualize all kinds of things including authority. Then you have not just one but two kinds to toy with.

I became interested in the person behind the hot stories, and my main motivation for coming back is genuine interest about your life (when before it was reading the sexy stuff).
