Reader Q&A: So what are you like?

So what are you like when you are not writing this wonderful blog ? Are you happy and chirpy ? Are you quiet and stern ? Do you have a coy smile ? Are you naughty ? Do you pull pranks on your friends ? *writes a hundred more such questions*

*laugh* Cute questions, but of course, the ‘what are you like’ one is unanswerable in any definitive way.

Are you happy and chirpy ?

Yes, I’m a pretty happy person in general. I like to see good and positive in things and am generally optimistic about life and possibilities.

Chirpy? No, I would never describe myself as ‘chirpy’ which implies a kind of bouncy chattery energy. Though I do twitter madly… does that count?

Are you quiet and stern ?

I am pretty quiet in that I keep to myself and am not very social. I’m an introvert, so I don’t really do idle chit chat with random people and if someone is talking about something I’m not interested in, I’m unlikely to contribute. But get me onto a topic I am interested in and I’m all chatty mcchatterton.

I’m not generally stern, no. I mean, stern about what? Life, the universe, everything? No. I can be stern if the situation warrants it. I do a pretty good line in seriously stern finger wagging sternness *wags finger sternly*.

Do you have a coy smile ?

*laugh*

adjective: (especially with reference to a woman) making a pretence of shyness or modesty which is intended to be alluring.

No, not coy.

Are you naughty ?

This is a funny one.

adjective:
1.
(esp. of children) disobedient; badly behaved.
2.
informal mildly rude or indecent, typically because related to sex.

Related to the first: I am a very obedient citizen. I follow rules, I obey traffic lights, I rarely speed, I don’t litter etc. I AM sometimes very badly behaved in my relationships (demanding, selfish, rude, plus, I hit, bite, scratch etc!).

Related to the second: Um. So. Yes, I guess I AM naughty.

Do you pull pranks on your friends ?

Ha! No, I don’t. I’m not a joker or a class clown type. Though I AM fucking funny to those who ‘get’ me!

*writes a hundred more such questions*

That’s okay, I can wait…

I can vouch for the virtual version of Ferns’ stern finger wagging! I tend to make her do it often. What you really want to avoid is her “patient sigh” which luckily I have only hit once so far and try to avoid it.

  2. Just because your title evoked it, enjoy some e e cummings

“i have found what you are like
    the rain,

    (Who feathers frightened fields
    with the superior dust-of-sleep. wields

easily the pale club of the wind
and swirled justly souls of flower strike

    the air in utterable coolness

    deeds of green thrilling light
    with thinned

    newfragile yellows

    lurch and.press

    —in the woods
    which
    stutter
    and

    sing
And the coolness of your smile is
    stirringofbirds between my arms;but
    i should rather than anything
    have(almost when hugeness will shut
    quietly)almost,
    your kiss”
