Divorce in the UK now affects a staggering 1 in 3 couples. Perhaps we’ve become a throw away society or more free in our relationships. Either way, solicitors are having a field day!

My wife and I have been together since 1995. Between us, we have an array of laughter lines and a few wrinkles that represent our married life together. In the main it has been wonderful but then my wife C has so many fantastic attributes that seem to make our relationship really easy. What makes it more astonishing is that we’ve worked together since 2003 so we spend a great deal of time in each other’s company. We’re very fortunate.

It wasn’t always a bed of roses though. We had a time where we stopped making each other feel special sexually. Perhaps pride got in the way but we had several years of lonely nights until we rediscovered each other. And it was – and still is – an incredible discovery. I hadn’t reckoned on Mrs S being a strong dominant character and she says she loves seeing my vulnerable side. To be fair, I think a great many men would look vulnerable faced with a serious looking woman wielding a strap-on but hey, whatever it takes. On a serious note, it took 15 years to get to that point.

If asking my wife’s friends to describe her in three words, you’d hear ‘gentle, kind and caring’ over and over again. She is. Over time I think I had began to always see her like that and not someone who could accommodate my darker fantasies which had been surpressed throughout our marriage. Tip: Never underestimate a woman. In putting my wife into a cute little box I was denying myself the opportunity for me to go into one. I eventually found the confidence to discuss my kinks much more than I had ever hinted at previously. Surprisingly she was really cool with everything. Since then we’ve been having a blast, spent a small fortune and an enviable amount of time having fun. Perhaps our work life has suffered a bit but life is for living, yes?

In some ways I wish we had done this years ago. We discussed this recently and both agreed that we probably weren’t comfortable enough in ourselves to really lose our inhibitions to enjoy things the way we do now. We’re making each other feel good in previously unimagineable ways. Despite the kink, it’s still nice to sit in front of the telebox cuddling and watching a film – when I’m actually allowed on the sofa that is!

Ferns: How does it make you feel?
Mrs S: Alive, feminine, sexual, empowered
SS: The luckiest boy in town, proud, horny ;)

I wonder how many of us that found this later in life feel this way. Was actually a conversation between my boy and I not too long ago. As much as. I love what we do, I came to the same conclusion. My younger self just couldn't have handled it as well.

  3. slapshot: “What a wonderful story.”

    It is isn't it?

This kind of story gives hope to all of those who are in loving relationships but assume that their partner would not be interested. It's sooo worth those difficult discussions.

A really interesting question. I guess it depends very much on whether parts of you are screaming for some aspect of it (whether it's kink or D/s or whatever) and whether not having it is making you terribly unhappy in the meantime.
